Celestee Cathey

Therapist, MSW, LCSW

I have 20 years of experience in the mental health field and achieved my Master’s of Social Work from the University of Houston in 2009. My treatment approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and based on self-determination with the goal of empowerment and the ability to view any situation with a positive mindset.

Through my certificate in infant mental health in 2013, I began to understand the importance of early bonding figures, attachment, co-regulation, and expression of attachment needs. This continues to inform my current practice with adults in resolving interpersonal conflicts and learning to self-soothe.

I dedicated over ten years of my career to the correctional system, where I completed risk assessments, responded to crises with the goal of de-escalation, and made necessary but difficult decisions to keep individuals safe from delirium, psychosis, and suicidality. This added to my experience and impacted my view on addressing barriers to ultimate self-fulfillment, including trauma, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and severe mental illnesses such as depression.

Training includes EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, Nutritional and Integrative Medicine for Mental Health Professionals, and Advanced Infant Mental Health. I love being outdoors in New Mexico, and one fun fact about me is that in grad school, I was a student of Brenee Brown. I’d love to meet with you in the sacred space of a therapeutic environment and talk about the journey you envision for yourself.
