Vivi Kafalenos
Therapist, LMSW
In mid-life, I decided to start a new career in Social Work to share my life experience and give back to others. I graduated from San Jose State with a Master’s in social work in 2011, and I moved to New Mexico in 2017 and have an LMSW.
As a practitioner, I believe in addressing the whole person, body, mind, spirit, and emotions, because they are interwoven; it’s in the balance of those four human elements that our mental health is optimized. Also, to consider ourselves as energetic beings.
Also, I believe spiritual healing is synergistic with psychological healing, so I encourage clients to pursue that if this is consistent with their beliefs. And yet, I strive to support everyone in their own beliefs, meaning respecting atheists as much as I do people who feel spiritual.
I’ve developed experience in dealing with people having a trauma history, including PTSD, and consider how multigenerational issues impact clients. I encourage clients to be aware of their needs and feelings and express them respectfully; I believe in educating clients about their symptoms and about mental health, on the assumption that people do the best with the information they have. Regarding PTSD, I have reconsolidation of traumatic memory, RTM, training. I also have the first Reiki attunement.
